Q. Gateway computer running Windows 95B and every time the user tries to print, an exception error occurs. Latest NW client from the web.
A. Suggested fixes were to look at the Gateway specific issues on Novell's Support Connection CDs and on their Support Connection on the Web, as well as looking at MS for patches to the LPT ports. Also trying the print on another WS with a similar config might check the data specific issues.
Q. Administrator is trying to create a script in VB which will call UIMPORT so that users space limitations can be set.
A. There is a UIMPORT setting/parameter that can be set to limit disk space.
Q. NetWare 4.11 with multiple network cards. Different IP addresses and IPX network addresses. How to make sure that the server is NOT routing, as there is already a router the is performing this function.
A. Use INETCFG to disable IPX routing - by default IP routing not enabled but IPX routing is. Also make sure the latest patches are being run (IWSP5B & TCPN05).
Q. Windows 95B, Client from Border Manager CD. When a client connects, a drive mapping is made to the user's home drive. When another client logs in on that machine, a new volume is mapped yet the old user's volume map name remains in explorer.
A. Try using the ZEN client (2.5 client), and also ensure that the disconnect current sessions option is selected in the NetWare client, and that if a drive is connected manually, it does not have the Reconnect At Login option set.
Q. Any news on the ZENworks updates?
A. There has been a blind (ie not publicised) rev released on the Web. Should be available on http://www.novell.com/download/. Fixes some printing issues and policies.
Extensible polices due next release. Currently ZENworks policies equate to POLEDIT (raw), so if want extensible must use MS POLEDIT then distribute files with NAL.
Q. Also, Compaq "preferred desktop" (Deskpro EN6500) problems with ATI video driver causes screen to go white when use remote control module (similar to Dell problem).
A. Beta ATI driver patch developed by Novell currently being tested by couple Novell customers, these will be built in to next release.
Q. Latest Compaq marketing completely ignores Novell NetWare - any comments?
A. Dean: Probably DEC marketing people taking over within merged company. Also, a bunch of Acer PC's being set up by Dean for a lab to demo Novell products !!!
Q. A server with GroupWise and ARCserve crashes regularly at 12:00 + 5 - 10 mins. No compression running. This is about 2 hours after the backups complete.
A. Check a Novell TID that talks about the number of cache buffers that are required, as ARCserve might be an issue here. Also look at the ARCserve "Grooming" features which by default kick in after midnight.
Q. A BrainShare mention on using both the MS client and the NetWare client (under NT). The MS client has to time out before it passes the request to the NetWare. Apparently there is a TID on this as well, and it is an issue with the MUP.SYS file. However, cannot find this file anywhere on either Novell or MS sites.
A. Dean has had requests for this before - send him an e-mail (dsheffield@novell.com) & he will provide it. Not happening on all machines, so some questioned whether should "fix" machines not having problems.
Q. Compaq Proliant with 2 CPU's. Can't get the second CPU to be recognised. No two tails in the Novell screen saver.
A. Make sure SMP enable through INSTALL.NLM as per normal. If that doesn't solve might need to update the BIOS for the Proliant.
Q. GroupWise scenario with 50 employees, and the management has decided to monitor every piece of mail, both incoming and outgoing. Solution was to set up an e-mail administrator (person employed just for this job!) & also set up a rule that if mail sent or received to forward a copy to the administrator. BUT ... when you forward mail it is regarded as sent item, so original mail triggers a forward to the administrator, then this forward triggers another one, then the third time it realises it's the same item and stops sending. Doesn't appear to be anywhere in the rules to configure this to achieve the desired result, so currently the recommended solution is "forget it !!!"
A. There currently isn't any way to distinguish between sent and forwarded mail in the rules. Also, there currently isn't any way to specify to not send a mail if the subject contains a text string like "fwd" or "forward". May be a C3PO based solution possible, or something in the Novell Consulting toolkit on the Web http://www.novell.com/toolkit/. Also try http://www.gwmag.com/ for the GroupWise gurus in the US. One last point is that GroupWise 5.5 has enhanced rules, so it may have better capabilities.
Q. NetWare 4.11 server running NetWare Connect won't route internal clients out onto the Internet. This is not a router or hub issue as it was all working fine before the NetWare 4.11 upgrade. The internal clients are running Socks compliant software.
A. Try loading PPPTRACE.NLM and look at the live monitor to see if any traffic across the WAN.
Q. What is the status of NetWare Connect now that Border Manager is supposed to supersede it?
A. Next NetWare Connect version is basically Border Manager with Remote Access Services (RAS!!!). Next release Border Manager (code name Big Sur) due late October.
Q. When are snap-ins going to be available for several products for NWAdmin32 ?
A. NWAdmin32 is interim step before Console One - pretty much all the NetWare 4 snap-ins must be ported over to NWAdmin32 first (this doesn't necessarily apply to stuff new to NetWare 5 e.g. DHCP/DNS Services only has a Console One module, but this service is not available on NetWare 4)
